We feel “Spring-y”!

Spring is in the air! And with it comes amazing events in the Historic District of Winter Garden.  The brick streets teem with visitors and residents as they take to the open air and enjoy beautiful days and cool nights on our lovely street.  Check out what’s coming:

First up, Garden Encore – Saturday, March 1.  This annual event helps fund our theatre season and features Broadway star Rachel Pottler!  Tickets here.

ImageThe 3rd Annual Winter Garden Bike Fest is Saturday, March 8.  It starts early and there are bike races through the streets all day until 2:30pm.  Check it out.  Also on March 8th, Rhythm & Roots, a music event at the City of Winter Garden on the Plaza from 4-9pm. First up, Davis McGee, singer/songwriter, followed by fresh indie folk group, Jubal’s Kin at 6pm and the band Seven Nations at 8pm. A touring band, Seven Nations blends guitar, vocal elements of American pop and rock with Highland bagpipes and fiddle.  Quite a sound.

Image33 Variations opens at the Garden Theatre on March 14 and runs through March 30. Written by the award-winning author of The Laramie Project, this gripping Broadway drama follows Beethoven in his final years as he obsesses over creating 33 variations of a simple waltz. Present day, a musicologist dealing with ALS races to finish her research on the famed composer. Plagued by illness, but gifted with passion, their parallel journeys entwine as they learn to embrace the gift of time. Nominated for numerous Tony Awards, 33 Variations is accompanied throughout by a concert pianist performing one of the greatest sets of piano variations ever written. Tickets here.

The Winter Garden Rotary sponsors a great concert in Newton Park on Lake Apopka. Check out Evening at the Pops on March 29 at 6:30 and features the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra. More info here.

ImageAnd the ultimate spring event in our town is Spring Fever in the Garden, sponsored by the Bloom and Grow Society, Saturday and Sunday, April 5 and 6. There will be live entertainment, food vendors and plants galore for sale. The Kidzone is planning two days of programs that will educate the children about our environment – how to save it and what lives in it. In addition, the children will be able to climb on the old fire truck, jump in the bounce house, have a butterfly painted on their face, and have a memorial photo taken on site. Patrons will have a chance to visit the “Ask the Experts” booth for information about landscaping, water conservation, and attracting certain wildlife to their backyards. And best of all, purchase everything you need to make your yard look amazing.  More details here. The Attic Door will be OPEN for lunch on Saturday and Sunday during this event!

Don’t forget to explore the town, including our new Winter Garden Art Association Art Gallery at 127 South Boyd, our Heritage Museum on Plant Street and the Central Florida Railroad Museum on Boyd.  Pick up a Treasure Hunt map for a fun family experience at the Heritage Museum or check out the walking tours which can be downloaded on any smart phone.  More info here.

Upcoming Event: Book Signing with Amber West

ImageHere is something new for the March calendar!  Save the date for a “Meet the Author and Book Signing” featuring Amber West, author of The Ruth Valley Missing.

Amber grew up here in Winter Garden and attended Dillard Street Elementary, Lakeview Middle and West Orange High Schools.

Amber will meet and greet guests and fans at The Attic Door, 28 West Plant Street, Historic Winter Garden, on Tuesday, March 5th at 7pm.  Happy Hour begins at 4pm and goes until 9pm on Tuesdays so come early, grab a seat and a glass of wine or a beer and enjoy seeing old friends!

Here is a synopsis of the book: Jameson Quinn is sick of trying to find herself in the big city. After a gallery opening ends in a trip to the ER and an argument with her self-involved boyfriend, she decides to take off for the peace and quiet of a small town — Ruth Valley.

The small town has everything Brooklyn lacked: simple people, peaceful surroundings, and a feeling of safety. Jameson even finds the perfect house to rent from the town’s most eligible bachelor, Sheriff Jack. Life is finally headed in a promising direction.

But something isn’t right. A young man is mysteriously injured, then disappears — and Jameson finds he isn’t the only person to suddenly vanish. The suspicious behavior of an abrasive nun and a creepy priest set her off on an investigation of what’s really happening. Will she figure out the secrets of Ruth Valley before she’s the next to go missing?

You can purchase The Ruth Valley Missing here.
